To build a sustainable business, the app will diversify its monetization.

Below is an in-depth analysis our potential revenue streams, with global insights and case studies, followed by recommended actions for implementation.

1
Transaction-Based Revenue – 5% Consumer

One immediate revenue source is transaction-based fees. Commissions on Trades can be charged on each sale or swap, ensuring the platform earns a small portion from every successful deal. This is a fundamental model used by many marketplaces

CGS will similarly impose a small commission on both consumers (buyers) per transaction. The commission rates have been balanced – high enough to generate revenue but competitive enough not to drive users away. Many successful platforms (e.g. eBay, Etsy) keep seller fees in the ~5–15% range to stay attractive ours is 5%.

2
Grower Marketing Fee – 5% Grower

CGS will implement a 5% marketing fee charged to growers on every transaction made through the platform. While traditionally termed a transaction fee, CGS classifies it as a marketing fee, highlighting that the platform actively brings customers directly to the growers. This revenue stream acknowledges CGS's role in facilitating sales and connecting consumers with local growers, thus providing growers with ongoing market exposure and customer acquisition.

3
Premium Listings & Promotions

Premium Listings & Promotions are another transaction-linked avenue. Sellers (growers) can pay extra to have their listings featured at the top of search results or highlighted in the app. This acts as a listing fee for increased visibility. It’s a common practice in marketplaces: the platform decides placement, and vendors pay to appear in prime spots. For instance, e-commerce sites often let sellers buy “sponsored” product slots. CGS is looking at offering a tiered premium listing system – e.g. a small fee for a highlighted listing or a higher fee for homepage featuring during peak season. This benefits sellers by boosting their chances of a sale, while the app earns incremental revenue without requiring a transaction to occur. It’s important to ensure promoted items are still relevant and high-quality, so users trust these featured spots.

4
Farmer Volume Subscription

As the user base matures and core functionality is established, CGS may transition large volume suppliers to a subscription-based model. This ensures farmers costs are consistent no matter what volume they are doing while providing continual repetitive revenue to CGS on a plan for access.

5
CGS Hardware Shop

Revenue can be generated through the development, sale, and deployment of specialized physical hardware designed explicitly for seamless integration with the CGS platform. By enabling merchants and growers to efficiently manage inventory, process blockchain-based transactions, and optimize logistics, this hardware enhances operational efficiency and user experience. It represents a stable and scalable revenue stream, benefiting CGS by driving ongoing user engagement and adoption.

6
CGS Garden Shop

An additional revenue stream can be established through operating a dedicated CGS gardening equipment shop. This CGS-owned store will provide essential gardening tools, supplies, and innovative technologies specifically curated to support community members in growing their own produce. By directly selling products such as hydroponic systems, organic fertilizers, sustainable packaging, and cultivation accessories, CGS can generate direct sales revenue. Exclusive offers, bundles, and loyalty discounts within the store will further drive customer engagement and reinforce CGS’s mission to promote sustainable gardening and localized food production.

7
Big Data & Analytics Monetization

As CGS accumulates user and market data (completely anonymized and aggregated), data analytics could become a lucrative and innovative revenue stream. The key is to leverage insights from the trading activity and eating habits – while strictly preserving user privacy – and offer those insights in useful formats to third parties or even back to power users.

Anonymous Market Insights: Over time, CGS will gather data on plant supply and demand: popular species, pricing trends by season or region, buyer preferences, etc. In fully anonymized form, this data is valuable to various stakeholders. For example, nurseries and garden centres might pay for insights on which rare plants are trending so they can adjust their stock. Agricultural researchers or horticultural businesses could use trend data for market research. This would be done by compiling the data into reports or dashboards that never reveal individual user information, only aggregated patterns.

8
Advertising & Sponsorships

Advertising is a classic app monetization strategy that, if executed carefully, can provide substantial revenue without directly charging users. CGS can explore in-app advertising placements, brand sponsorships, and partnerships with relevant companies to capitalize on its niche audience of plant lovers.

In-App Ads display ads within the app , whether banner ads, interstitial (full-screen) ads, or native content ads – can generate income based on impressions or clicks. Because CGS is a marketplace, it has an advantage: many advertisers (seed companies, gardening tool manufacturers, eco-friendly product brands) would find its audience highly desirable.

9
Gamification & In-App Purchase Revenue

Gamifying the CGS app can not only boost user engagement but also open up avenues for in-app purchases (IAPs). By introducing game-like elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, and collectible digital items such a skins and profile building, CGS can tap into users’ desire for achievement and personalization – and monetize it through optional purchases.

10
Partnerships & Grants

In addition to direct monetization, CGS will explore external funding sources and strategic partnerships, especially those aligned with sustainability and agriculture. These can provide capital, resources, or revenue inflows without solely relying on user charges.

CGS’s diversified revenue streams create a robust financial foundation, minimizing dependency on any single source. Among these, the Grower Marketing Fee stands out as the simplest and most immediate revenue opportunity. By engaging existing markets and leveraging current relationships, CGS can rapidly establish this stream, ensuring swift and profitable growth. This strategic approach maximizes early profitability and supports long-term business sustainability.
