Australia’s agricultural sector is set to enhance its global competitiveness and biosecurity measures with the National Agricultural Traceability Strategy: Implementation Plan 2023-2028. Released by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), this plan aims to improve product tracking, regulatory efficiency, and supply chain transparency.

With a goal to increase farmgate output beyond $100 billion by 2030, the strategy focuses on digital traceability solutions, interoperability between systems, and enhanced data security. It will support Australian exports by ensuring compliance with international sustainability standards, reducing regulatory burdens, and increasing consumer confidence in food safety and provenance.

Key initiatives include:

  • A national digital traceability framework for seamless tracking from farm to consumer.
  • Regulatory streamlining to ease compliance costs for farmers and exporters.
  • Stronger partnerships with global markets to maintain Australia’s reputation for high-quality agricultural products.

This initiative not only boosts Australia’s economic prospects but also fortifies biosecurity and sustainability efforts, ensuring long-term benefits for both producers and consumers.
