In 2022, Australian industries faced significant challenges, notably supply chain disruptions and skills shortages. The Australian Industry Group's (Ai Group) CEO Survey for 2023 highlighted these issues as primary concerns for business leaders.

Supply chain disruptions were exacerbated by global events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, leading to increased freight rates and delays. Businesses reported difficulties in sourcing materials and products, impacting production schedules and profitability.

Concurrently, a tight labor market intensified skills shortages, with many companies struggling to recruit suitable candidates for vacant roles. This shortage hindered business operations and growth, as firms lacked the necessary human resources to meet demand.

To address these challenges, businesses are adopting strategies to enhance supply chain resilience, such as diversifying suppliers, investing in technology, and upskilling existing staff. However, ongoing global uncertainties suggest that supply chain pressures and skills shortages may persist, requiring continuous adaptation and policy support to sustain economic stability and growth.
